A Ghanaian former Finance Minister has been picked up and detained by the US Immigration.
The former Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who left Ghana on medical grounds last year has been on the run due to corruption allegations held against him in his home country .
His Lawyers say he is being detained because his immigration status is questioned.
Ofori Atta’s home Country Ghana previously requested that Ofori-Atta be extradited, but his claims were defended by his legal team , saying the allegations against him are politically motivated and should be ignored.
Ofori Atta’s Lawyers have confirmed his detention and they believe it would be resolved promptly as their client was “law-abiding” and in the process of applying to change his immigration status allowing him to stay in the US “past the period of validity of his visa”.
