The World Glaucoma Awareness Week 2021 has commenced with the theme: “World is Bright, Save your Sight”.
This year’s activities which commenced on the March 07, 2021 will end on March 13, 2021.
The Medical Director of Nobis Eye Centre, Dr Gideon Avar, an Ophthalmologist, said at an inauguration ceremony held in Yola that Cataracts and Glaucoma were one of the leading causes of blindness in Nigeria.
Adding that there is growing statistics of eye blindness in Nigeria and the North east in particular.
He went on to state that Cataracts is curable, while Glaucoma, if it is not detected early cannot be remedied.
He said that people should take advantage of World Glaucoma Week to check the state of their eye sight.
