The International Womens Day (IWD), is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day is marked on the March 8, annually.
Mr. Tony Ojukwu the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), said The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Ojukwu said women are the reason for growth of the human race and they play very crucial role in development.
He spoke based on a statement signed by Fatimah Agwai Mohammed, Deputy Director Public Affairs in the Commission which stressed the fact that women deserve a future free from any form of violence , should be respected and included all spheres of nation building
Ojukwu buttressed that as such, women deserve an equal future free from any form of stigma or stereotype adding that ” We cannot get to such a wonderful future except we have women on every table where crucial decisions that benefit every person regardless of place and creed are made”.
This year 2021 theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’.
Urging, that we must all be ready to support the fight against inequality in all its ramifications and collectively help to create an inclusive world.
