The Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHSR) has again called on the Nigerian Police to expedite actions on findings relating to the gruesome murder of a Youth Leader in Ojomu Community, Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami who was killed at a social gathering held in Moba Town adjacent Ajiran on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
A Statement signed by Comrade Alex Omotehinse, The President of CHSR, stated that three months after the murder of Sheriff, the Police is yet to show any seriousness or even convincing interest in the killing of the Youth Leader who left behind a Mother, Wife and three young Daughters aged five, four and two years old.
The CHSR President further explained that after Sheriff Ishola Salami’s lost his life, a formal report was made at the Ogombo Police Station, Lekki, with a letter from an Attorney to the Assistant Inspector General Of Police, Zonal Command Headquarters, Zone II, Onikan, Lagos, requesting a probe into the immediate and remote causes of Sheriff’s death but according to CHSR no positive move has been made by the Police.
Mr. Omotehinse went on the state that the non-chalance of the Police appears orchestrated inspite of several calls by the family and Civil Rights Organisations for Justice, which should be a statutory duty of the Police.
The killing of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami has left his immediate family and relatives totally broken coupled with the lack of efforts by the Police to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.
Calling for justice, the CSHR called on the Lagos State Government to compel the Lagos State Police Command to act without further delay in unraveling the perpetrators of the callous act.
The Organisation also appealed to the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun to order full investigation into the remote cause of the murder of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and probe into the reasons why justice is being delayed three months after the incident.

Human Rights activist and a member of Democracy Volunteers, Sina Odugbemi said what ensued is a simple land dispute case which should never have led to loss of life. Unfortunately since life has been lost the State must rise up to the occasion by investigating the cause of the murder and ensure “justice for the living and justice for the dead” is served.
Shina Loremikan Co-ordinator ‘Campaign Against Impunity’ in Nigeria said the death was caused by a land grabbing issue that got out of hands and despite petitions written to the Zone 11 Onikan, no investigation is going on and no one has been arrested hence the cry for justice by the CHSR.
