
Felicia Marinze, who recently concluded her PH.D at age 71 is so far the oldest Student to get a Doctorate degree, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) since the institution was established. Thus she has indeed broken a record.
According to NAN, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, broke the news at a briefing ahead of the varsity’s 51st convocation on Wednesday.

Ogundipe said Marinze is also one of the best graduating students from the institution.
The VC pointed out that alongside Marinze to be awarded best graduating student are: Olatunji Moruf from the Department of Marine Science and Ekundayo Mesagan of the Department of Economics who will also be awarded the best Ph.D. thesis in Humanities.
Others to be honoured at the event are Mohammed Indimi, Kessington Adebutu and Biodun Shobanjo, Chairman of Troyka Holdings Ltd.

“The three-day Convocation ceremony will culminate in the graduation of 15,753 students. These comprise of 7,754 students who will be awarded first degrees and 7,999 Postgraduate degrees,” the VC added.
The University will also award a post-humous honorary doctorate degree to Late Dr. Stella Ameyo, who was a lead consultant physician and endocrinologist at the First Consultant Hospital, and the one that handled the first Ebola case in Nigeria, she eventually came down with the virus and lost her life to the virus.
Also to be awarded in the Post-humous Category is Late Proffessor Ibidapo Obe, one of the Late Vice-Chancellors of University of Lagos.
The Vice-Chancellor also said, “We shall also award 160 Diplomas in Social Works and Human Kinetics.
Ogundipe said, The Faculty of Engineering came tops in the category of first class with 70 graduates followed by Management Sciences with 59 graduates bagging First class degrees among others.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the University had in the last year recorded huge success, particularly in the area of research and internalisation infrastructure upgrade.
He noted that the institution has also attracted a total of N14 billion research grants in the last three years, both locally and internationally.
