The Lagos State Branch of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) will hold its 2026 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference (AGM&SC) on September 16 and 17, 2026, in Lagos. The conference, led by the Association Chairman, Dr. Jonathan Esegine, and the Local Organising Committee Chairman, Dr. Tunji Akintade, will focus on critical issues affecting healthcare delivery in Nigeria. The central theme is “Understanding Medical Negligence Laws: Separating Facts from Fiction,” with Dr. Enejo Abdu expected to examine the legal and ethical issues surrounding medical negligence and promote a clearer understanding of the subject among medical practitioners and the public.

The two-day conference will feature sessions on “Best Practices: Communication, Informed Consent, and Patient Confidentiality,” with Professor Olayinka Atilola, Dr. Victoria Egunjobi, Professor. Folashade Adegbite and Dr. Bose Salami as panelists, and Dr. Segun Akeredolu anchoring the discussion. Another session, “Public Perception of Adverse Medical Outcomes,” will be addressed by Mr. Olatunde Adejuyigbe, SAN, who will examine the legal and societal perspectives surrounding medical complications, with emphasis on correcting misconceptions and promoting transparency in medical care. Health policy officials and representatives of government agencies are also expected at the event, further underscoring ANPMP’s role in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

Speaking ahead of the conference in a pre-conference chat with Nigeria News Online (TNNO), the Lagos ANPMP Branch Publicity Secretary, Dr. Tunde Obajinmi, said the Local Organising Committee was working to ensure a well-organised and impactful event. He expressed optimism that the conference would provide practical insights capable of improving medical practice and strengthening trust between patients and healthcare providers. Stakeholders expect the event to generate practical recommendations and an implementation framework for fostering better relationships among patients, relatives, medical practitioners, healthcare institutions, professional regulators, law-enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

The conference is also expected to culminate in a communiqué and policy papers to guide further deliberations and implementation across Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
