
The Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday promised that the State Government will supply 20,000 free prepaid meters to five low-income communities in the state.
According to him, this will serve as blueprint to universal access to electricity in Lagos.
This was made Known to Journalist by the State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Olalere Odusote, at the Year 2021 Ministerial Press Briefing commemorating the Secound year Anniversary of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration.
According to the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, when the State electricity policy takes off, the “Light-up Lagos” power programme of the State Government would follow concurrently.
Pointing out that the Electricity Policy is necessary in achieving the T.H.E.M.E.S. and agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration and would serve as a key driver for the socio-economic development and aspirations of the state.
He went on to emphasize that arrangements have been concluded with a leading smart metering solution company (Elsewedy Electric) on meter supply to the targeted low-income communities and also identified transmission infrastructure challenges across the State in accordance with Government’s 30-year Development Plan (2021 – 2051), currently being developed,”
The Pioneer Communities to benefit from this programme are Isale Eko, Mushin, Surulere, Alimosho and Agege.
