NDLEA SEIZES N60 BILLION WORTH OF ILLICIT DRUGS

The National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized over N60 Billion worth of illicit drugs in the Country in the Last two Months.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the NDLEA Rtd. General Buba Marwa.

 The NDLEA boss who spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital on Thursday during an event tagged, ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ organised by the State Ministry of Justice, said there was no challenge more worrisome than the menace of drug abuse in the country.

He went on to say that the security challenges such as kidnappings, killings, banditry and others, bedevilling the country would be drastically curtailed if efforts are coalesced at preventing the use of illicit drugs.

According to him, “Insurgency, kidnapping and banditry are peculiar to some certain parts of the country, but drugs abuse is universal, it has neither boundary nor respect for ethnicity or religion.

 He states further, “The menace is worrisome, within the last two months, more than N60 billion worth of illicit drugs have been seized, perpetrators arrested and prosecuted. If access to drugs is prevented, criminality in the Country will be reduced by fifty percent.”

He therefore urged that stakeholders to intensify the campaign against the use of illicit drugs, especially among youths.  Advising that parents should make the presentation of drug certificate a prerequisite before giving their daughters and sons hands out in marriage

Buttressing the Statement by the NDLEA Chairman, The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi restated the commitment of his administration to reduce drug abuse in the state, urging participants to come out.
