Doctors in Lagos State under the Umbrella of the Nigeria Medical Association yesterday staged a peaceful protest against harassment of their personnel by Government Agencies.
The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital was the rallying point as they walked through the streets of Oba Akinjobi , Ikeja singing and chanting as they walked by.
The team of Doctors led by Dr. Kehinde Saheed the Chairman Nigeria Medical Association NMA Lagos and ably supported by the NMA National Vice Chairman Dr. Tosin Oloojbutu and the ANPMP Lagos Chairman Dr. Jonathan Esegine, his team of Executives and Doctors from across Lagos
The protest was triggered by several incidents of arrest and detentions of Medical Doctors and Personnel sometimes leaving the hospital vulnerable and patients with no one to attended to them.
The climax was early April 2026 when a Doctor in Lekki was arrested and detained all through the Easter week for the death of two minors who were brought in with severe conditions of hypovolemic shock both children later lost their lives due to no fault of the Doctor.
The Association spokesperson and NMA Lagos Chairman Doctor Babajide Kehinde Saheed went on to clarify that the Association does not object to people seeking redress but are only appealing that due process be followed while doing so and harassment or Criminal treatment of their personnel.by Government agencies and the public is a No! No!!
Dr. Saheed once again reiterated that the channels of complaints remain The Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria, The Nigeria Medical Association NMA and the Hospital Management pointing out that it is only after these options have beeng exhausted that other complaint management measures could be sought.
