Ministry of Sports signs a Consensus with Yanga Games

The Ministry of Sports has reached agreements with Yanga Sports towards creating a new dawn for Nigerian Sports,

Reaching a pact and signing a landmark agreement the Federal Ministry of Sports and a top lottery company known as Yanga Games have come together to create ways and means of raising the revenue profile of the Ministry and ensuring a new deal for the welfare of athletes.

Sequel to deliberations at various levels the consensus eventually came alive at the ‘unveiling of the Partnership’ on Friday the 19th of April 2023 in Lagos.

Speaking during the unveiling of the accord the Chairman/CEO of Yanga Games Mr Derrick David Kentebe said ” We are so super excited by this opportunity to work with the Ministry of Sports Development to change the narrative about Sports in the country”

Mr. Derrick Kentebe went on to say “We see an opportunity for marketing our athletes and sports generally . We shall avail ourselves the best use of this unique and special partnership. We shall pursue this mandate with vigor, passion and unrivaled commitment to bring benefits to all the critical stakeholders.”

He went on to stress that the agreement will provide support for retired athletes, enhance grassroot sports Development and advance the potentials of special athletes, assuring that ” Yanga Games has the capacity to raise funds on behalf of the Ministry of Sports for athletes development, endorsement and secure sponsorship deals for athletes.”

Kentebe throwing more light on the drive said ” We shall raise about 34 Billion in the next four years to assist athletes and improve sports in the country. We shall help to develop grassroot sports and sustain youth involvement through raffle draws, fund raiser and other avenues.”

In his address, Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports assured that the Ministry has total and absolute confidence in Yanga Games and believes they will deliver on the given mandate.

The Minister said “Gone is the era when we depended solely on government to fund sports development. We are partnering with Yanga Games to bring maximum benefits to the athletes and all critical stakeholders.We shall give institutional encouragement and support to the Management of Yanga Games to succeed in this onerous task of rebuilding our sports sub sector.”

In attendance at the event were Dr. Ken Egbas, ex-International Wahid Akanni and the who’s who in the Nigerian Sports Industry.
