Governor Nyesom Wike Compensates Families Slain of Policemen

Governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has the reviewed the on-going curfew in the State.

The broadcast was made at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, The Governor announced that the previous time for the daily commencement of the curfew, which was 10pm has been reviewed and now starts at 7pm until further notice.

Governor Wike explained that the curfew time was being reviewed due to the spate of incessant killings in Rivers State.

The Governor stated that the State Security Council resorted to tightening the restrictions after an appraisal of the recent security situation in the State where eleven Police officers were ambushed and killed in a multiple attack overnight.

The Gunmen attacked two Police Stations and a checkpoint.

The Governor who had earlier met with Officers of the Police High Command in the state had informed that a donation of N20,000,000 (Twenty million naira) would be given to the families of the eleven policemen killed in the attacks.

Describing the killing of the Policemen as sad and unfortunate, the Governor pointed out that the security officials were innocently killed for doing their job.

Governor Wike, added that no amount of money was commensurate to life but as a State, it is in order for compensation to be given to the families of Security Personnel who lose their lives in the course of their job.
