Lagos State yesterday joined the world to switch over to the DSO.

The second phase of the DSO was launched in Lagos with Ajhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture present to ensure a smooth switch over.

The journey towards Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) broadcasting started in Nigeria on June 17th, 2006. Despite several hitches here and there, alot of milestones have been achieved towards Digitalisation in Nigeria. Jos was used as the Pilot City for the DSO in Nigeria. The project was first test run on the 30th April 2016 in Jos. Today several States can boast that they have an up and running Switch over.

However the second phase of the DSO went life in Lagos on the Thursday, April 29th, 2021 in a landmark event held at Sheba Place, Ikeja.

The Minister Alhaji Lai Mohammed in his speech said that one of the advantages of the DSO is the ability to use technology to enhance life and create jobs and empower the masses especially the youths.

The Minister said that the content will 70% local and 30% foreign on a 24 hour Television. with a minimum of sixty digital Channels; he added that the introduction of the DSO will also include Premium paid T.V and Push T.V to mention a few.

Lai Muhammed also said that the free T.V Push services will help all viewers with information dissemination. The DSO introduction will also help Advertiser in their Surveys .

The interesting thing about the Boxes according to the Minister is the fact that they are locally manufactured.

In his speech the Minister of Information said it is going to be free T.V which every individual should be able to access with a yearly subscription of N1,500

Mr. Olusina Thorpe reading out the speech of the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the State Government was glad about the development and willing to throw its weight behind the project as the benefit to the state were innumerable ranging from Job Creation, Youth empowerment aside being a useful vehicle through which information could be dispersed to the masses thereby bringing Governance closer to the people.

Olusina pointed out that the launching the second phase of the DSO in Lagos was a welcome development as it will help citizens have access to local, National and International content.

The State Government said the connection of the DSO to Radio and Television Licences was another reason why the state Government is committed to this lofty project.

The event was witnessed by Honourable Odebunmi, Engr. Setoji David, Barrister Kolade Alabi, The Acting Director General NBC Professor Armstrong A. Idachaba, Director General NTA, Yakubu Mohammed, Director General FRCN Mansur Liman, APCON Chief Registrar Dr. Lakin Fadolapo and several other Industry juggernauts
